Hollywood athletes perform on the world stage and national record broken.

The rise of the Hollywood Athletics Club has been nothing short of remarkable, with the club’s membership reaching a thousand members in the early part of the athletics season. Greg Glossop, the Chairperson of the club, describes these times as “exciting,” a sentiment shared by all the purple stars.

The elite runners of the club have not only made their mark on the international stage but have also broken national records. Tayla Kavangah took on the world’s best in the 5km Road Race, in Riga, Lativa, and secured a 15th place finish among 34 of the world’s best runners. She crossed the finish line in an impressive time of 15:50, setting not only a personal best but also a national record. This achievement came after her victory earlier this year at the South African 5km National Championships in Nasrec, Johannesburg, where she clocked a time of 16:45 to be crowned the National Champion.

“I was happy with my 15th place at my first World Road Running Championships, I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and race. Overall, the race went well, and I was happy with my performance on the day. I look forward to what lies ahead, and I hope to represent South Africa in many more teams in the near future,” said Tayla.

Cian Oldknow, who is now referred to as “Ms. PB” by the media, showcased her talent at the Hollywoodbets Durban 10km, last month by taking first place and setting a new 10km PB with a time of 32:17, giving her the confidence, she needed to compete in the World Championships Half Marathon. Staying true to her form, she set another personal best in Latvia, finishing with a time of 1:10:08 and securing 15th place among 70 of the world’s best half marathon runners. Her ability to set personal bests on both home soil and the international stage, shows she is a formidable competitor and one to look out for in the future as she keeps improving.

“Starting the club, we never envisioned to be where we are now, it is amazing and indeed exciting times. We are happy by the performances of Tayla and Cian, on the international stage they have represented the nation well, and we are glad that they wear the purple of Hollywood Athletics Club”. said Greg.
