Middle Distance Star, Mathews Leeto Joins Hollywood Athletics Club
Thirty-two-year-old Mathews Leeto is the latest middle-distance athlete to join the Purple Team, Hollywood Athletics Club.
Leeto, who hails from Zeerust in the North West Province, had a breakthrough season in 2022. He finished second at the ASA SA Cross Country Championships in September. This was followed by a 4th place finish at the Run Your City Joburg 10k on Heritage Day, before going on to take a whopping 40 seconds off his 10km Personal Best at the Hollywoodbets Durban Summer 10km in October, clocking 28:45 and finishing 6th.
For Leeto, joining Hollywood Athletics club was the next move in his career as the ethos and direction of the club speaks directly to his vision and running objectives.
Club President, Morgan Shandu is elated with the new signing and the calibre of athlete that Mathews Leeto is. The club has grown from humble beginnings and is gradually building up into a major force to be reckoned with on the South African road running circuit through strategic signing of talent.
“We’re in this journey for the long haul,” said Shandu. “We have a plan and a strategy and want to gradually build. Mathews is part of that plan, and we are excited to have him join the Purple family.”
